For a while now I’ve been itching to work abroad. Finally it’s really happening! I recently received my work Visa for China and I’ll be departing in late August. It’s been such a long road to get here, so to be so close, and have this be so tangible makes me really excited.

I started the search last September, shortly after I returned from Beijing. The search was not easy. I encountered a lot of backlash because I was not perceived as an American or employers were unsure whether they could attain a work visa for me. At times, I definitely thought this was not going to happen. Other times, I was determined to make this happen, but began to suffer from “cold feet” syndrome. In the end, I really wanted to get back into the world of education and I knew that the moving to China to do that would be such a unique experience.

Of course, it’s not easy leaving family, friends, and significant others behind, but I’m excited for the experience, the people, and the culture. Just like any other change in my life, I see this as a new chapter. I know that there will be many challenges, but the amount that I’ll have the opportunity to learn will outweigh any negative I come across. Stay tuned for an update on this journey!
