What exactly is love? Why is it that people fiend for love? Why do people feel unaccomplished when they don’t attain love?

Neuroscientists say people in love experience the same rush of sensation as a dope addict after a hit of their drug of choice. Based on this comparison, is love really something we should aspire to attain or is it simply yet another distraction from the more important aspects of life. The ability to harness emotions and build connections with others is what has made the humans the advanced species we are today; nevertheless, it is this same attribute that serves as the downfall of humanity.

I value the concept of love. Love for family. Love for friends. Love of self. However, when I reflect on the many times love has clouded my judgement, altered my plans, and set me back, I begin to wonder how much value I should truly place on this emotion. Is it just a state of mind that will swiftly pass once distracted?

I believe love is a necessary evil. An attribute, an experience, that will bring the best joys and the lowest lows; nevertheless, from each run-in with love, you grow stronger and better equipped for the next experience. I guess love embodies the concept of being “perfectly imperfect”.

Food for thought 🙂
